Multimedia Principles

Reflection:

(04/25/2015)

This third Daily Create assignment reinforced my understanding of the multimedia principles of Modality (best use of visual and auditory channels) and Contiguity (best placement/sequencing of words & pictures). I chose to create a video of a stone masonry project I build at my home a few years ago. I felt that it would fit nicely with my construction theme, but it was also something that I knew I would have plenty of images available to use.

I was required to produce an Animoto video that was at least 2 minutes long, paying special attention to multimedia principles. Although it was not required, I included narration by creating short videos with Microsoft Movie Maker and uploading them to Animoto. Through this assignment, I have become aware of effective multimedia principles to the point that I catch myself constantly analyzing other videos and advertisements to learn from them!

I appreciate this experience because it has broadened my potential to use multimedia tools in construction training. I am gaining an understanding of how to engage my audience and captivate them with my message! I think that video and multimedia are ideal tools not only for accessibility but also for retaining the attention learners in the construction industry.
