My vision is for a happier, more productive society that is driven by ambition and fulfilled by the pride of accomplishment.
I believe that this transformation is possible through enlightenment. My goal is to provide attainable, industry-driven education in non-technical skills of human interaction, critical thinking, self-management and self-direction to develop leadership and heighten workforce ambition. I want to design programs with meaningful milestones that promote continuous improvement while nurturing aspiration for greater individual accomplishments.
Coming from the construction industry, I feel that craft skills and occupational training are essential to our businesses; yet, I believe that these talents are merely tools in a box if they are not coupled with ambition and solid work habits. In industry, we tend to measure efficiency and success by “productivity” with reactionary leadership that diminishes the workforce to mechanical devices and line items; unfortunately, this line of thinking is counterproductive because, ultimately, it suppresses the dignity and aspiration of the people doing the actual work. I advocate that we turn “productivity” into a byproduct of employee aspiration and satisfaction by improving the outlook and potential of individuals! The workforce is people, and our local industries and businesses need people who can think on their feet, not “machines” that have been programed for specific tasks… We can train people to do the work, but making them productive is an overwhelming job business owners and supervisors.
Community college is the perfect organization to provide human resource development for local companies; moreover, by providing attainable, relevant education that makes a difference in paychecks now, we can foster an aspiration for personal growth in individuals who might otherwise never consider higher education. This reaches well beyond business support to transform the heart, vision, and purpose of society!
